Shirey businesses announce new staff

Eastside home repair and remodeling company Shirey Handyman Service announced the addition of Rupasi Young as the company’s finance and office manager. Young brings with her nearly 10 years of finance and accounting experience.

Issaquah-based remodeler and custom builder Shirey Contracting also announced a new staff member, Kathy Gamlem, who will be a project representative and has more than 15 years of business development, marketing and sales management experience.

The company hired Young to fill a new position created to help accommodate the company’s recent growth and to manage the expanding operations. As finance/office manager, Young will oversee payroll, taxes, finance and accounting functions and various other analytical and administrative systems.

Prior to joining Shirey Handyman Service, Young worked with Pacific Housing Advisors, an affordable housing consulting firm in Seattle, and previously earned her B.S. in microbiology from California Polytechnic State University.

At Shirey Contracting, Gamlem will be responsible for building client relationships, overseeing marketing efforts and guiding the design-build remodeling process. She will work closely with clients on Shirey Contracting’s design-build services, with a special emphasis on promoting the company’s energy-efficient and sustainable methods for creating high-performance homes.

Prior to joining Shirey Contracting, Gamlem worked for REMAX and Windermere, as well as several high-tech companies, including Microsoft, Beyond Work and Vanteon.

Auto shop offers free light replacements

Gilman Autobody will offer free taillight replacements in the coming weeks, as a community service.

Owner Tom Richardson purchased the business, located at 6405 229th Ave. S.E., about a month ago and wanted to help out the community as a way of introducing himself.

“We want to make sure that everybody’s safe in the community,” Richardson said. “It’s getting dark earlier and longer nights are coming around.”

The auto shop will replace taillights for free, or headlights if customers purchase them. To take advantage of either offer, make an appointment between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call 392-0101.
