Issaquah to host Sister City conference

Issaquah will host the Washington State Sister Cities Conference from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at Tibbetts Creek Manor. The conference purpose is to bring together participants from Sister City programs throughout the state.

Sister Cities is an international program that “promotes peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation,” according to the organization.

This year’s conference will focus on connecting with the Islamic world through citizen diplomacy, and raising funds for small- and medium-sized cities.

Issaquah currently has two sister cities: Chefchaouen, Morocco and Sunndal, Norway.

Advance registration of $30 is required to attend the event. For more information, or to register online, go to http://wasistercities08.eventbrite.com.

Boundary review process completed

Issaquah School District’s Boundary Review Committee has passed its final recommendation to the Superintendent.

The decision came at the committee’s Oct. 15 meeting.

Superintendent Steve Rasmussen will look at the proposals with staff before presenting the final boundaries to the Issaquah School Board in December.

The new boundaries will take effect in 2010.
