State Rep. Bill Ramos announced Thursday that he will run for State Senate during the 2024 election.
His announcement comes hours after incumbent Sen. Mark Mullet declared he would not seek re-election and would instead run for governor next year.
Ramos, an Issaquah Democrat, was first elected to the State House in 2018. He represents Washington’s 5th Legislative District, which includes Snoqualmie, North Bend, Issaquah, Maple Valley and Renton.
He serves as chair of the State Government & Tribal Relations Committee and sits on both the community safety and transportation committees. Additionally, he vice chairs the bicameral Latino Democratic Caucus, comprised of eight House and three Senate members.
Prior to his time in the legislature, Ramos worked for the U.S. Forest Service in North Bend and the U.S. Department of Transportation. He was also a member of the Issaquah City Council between 2016 and 2018.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to build on my record and bring my expertise to the state senate,” Ramos said in a statement. “The 2024 elections are going to be critical for the future of our state and nation.
“[I]’m eager to continue working for good jobs and infrastructure investments, safeguarding health care rights, and making sure kids get the future they deserve– with good schools, safe communities, and action on climate change.”
The primary election will be held in August 2024.
